Obama 'ready to drop shield plans for Russian help on Iran'

MOSCOW, March 2 (RIA Novosti) - Washington has told Moscow that Russian help in resolving Iran's nuclear program would make its missile shield plans for Europe unnecessary, a Russian daily said on Monday, citing White House sources.
U.S. President Barack Obama made the proposal on Iran in a letter to his Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, Kommersant said, referring to unidentified U.S. officials.

...I remember hearing about the internal debate in Poland as to whether they should get involved with the American missile defense system -- no doubt it was a difficult decision, weighing the lessons of the Westerplatte against the possibility of reprisal from Russia. Finally, they agreed to get involved. Now, this new American president left them high and dry, dropping the plans for the missile defense system for which Poland stuck its neck out in support.

I think it's the disingenuous nature in which he has done it which frustrates me most -- just as he uses the financial crisis here to institute his socialist ideas, he's using the Iranian problem to justify employment of his detente-at-all-costs approach to foreign policy.
